Winter Festival 2023/2024

HoVEC Christmas Festival 2023
The 2023 Christmas Festival welcomed more visitors than ever before, despite the freezing temperatures which tested the heating capacity in the marquee!
The Quiz Night on Friday evening proved incredibly popular, surpassing all expectations with more than 200 participants. Ben Ralph was an excellent quizmaster, with a wide range of brilliant questions, and everyone enjoyed the cheese and biscuits … and the Social Club bar!
The Christmas decorations in the marquee were particularly stunning and the Committee received lots of lovely comments about how pretty it looked. Many thanks go to Lisa Gartshore and all the volunteers who helped to make this happen!
The Christmas Market welcomed a full quota of stalls with a huge variety of goods and refreshments on offer. The Christmas Grotto spread the magic of Christmas to so many village children who were excited to meet Father Christmas and share their wish lists for Christmas Day.
130 Saturday night party guests enjoyed delicious chilli meals, cooked up by wizard chef Anthony Hacker, followed by an evening listening to the talented Box of Frogs band, who had everyone up on the dance floor.
The thank yous due to everyone who worked so hard to make this monumental event happen are too numerous to mention: so much hard work goes on behind the scenes organising everything from laying the tables, to fixing the electrics, flooring, barriers, security, refreshments and decorations.  However, special mention must go to the Social Club, who offer such amazing support to HoVEC events by organising volunteers to run a full bar for the entire weekend. We are so grateful to them and all our unsung heroes. Likewise to Sara Foster and the HoVEC Committee.
Unfortunately, despite its success and popularity, the Christmas Festival has made a loss for the past two years and involved an unsustainable effort by too few people so we will be taking a break this year, but very much hope to return in the future.
HoVEC urgently needs more volunteers if we are to continue running village events so please contact if you are able to help in any way, no matter how small.

HoVEC Winter Festival Programme of events 2023
As the nights creep in and signs of Christmas start to fill the shop shelves, preparations are well underway for this year’s HoVEC Winter Festival on the Village Green. Back by popular demand, there will be a festively decorated and heated marquee in Horsmonden over the weekend of Friday 1st December and a full programme of activities to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.
The weekend starts on the evening of Friday 1st with a Christmas Quiz. £10 tickets include a cheese board and entry to the Quiz which will be compered by quiz master Ben Ralph borrowed from the Halfway House! Everyone is welcome to get together a team of six or eight people and give themselves a name to join in the fun! Arrive at 7.30pm for 8pm start and please do not bring your own alcohol but support the Social Club Bar as money raised helps to fund future events and the Festivals won’t be viable without them. Tickets are available by emailing
Saturday 2nd December is a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping without braving the crowds in the towns and cities… all while soaking up the village atmosphere at the popular Christmas Market between 11am and 3pm. There will be a wide range of gifts and homemade crafts on sale, alongside some festive refreshments and a BBQ provided by The Horsmonden Sports Club. We still have a few tables left - to book yours please contact
Later that day the marquee is turned into a party venue with a live band and supper included in the £20 ticket price. Local band, Box of Frogs, were so popular last year that they are back to entertain us again with Alastair Cross so make sure you bring your dancing shoes. Unlike the Summer Festival, there is no need to organise a group of 8/10 people: seating is casual and you can just eat your supper at any available table. Payment is in advance and please email
The weekend festivities close on Sunday with a joint church service hosted by the Methodist and St Margaret’s churches at 10am. And finally, the Silent Auction and Christmas Raffle will be running over the whole weekend with lots of great prizes to bid for!

As always, help will be needed to co-ordinate the Winter Festival, to ensure that it runs smoothly so please contact us if you can offer any help, no matter how small: there are plenty of roles to suit everyone - hanging decorations, helping to set up/clear down stalls, fencing arenas, litter picking, baking, rearranging the marquee, etc.
Please email if you would like to get involved.
