HoVEC Summer Festival 2024 - Celebrations Wide Open!

6th - 9th June 2024hyphenHorsmonden Village Green
HoVEC Summer Festival 2024 - Horsmonden Celebrations Wide Open!
This year’s Summer Festival will be held on the second weekend in June and promises to be
bigger and better than ever before.

Thursday 6th June
Back by popular demand, the weekend’s events kick off on Thursday 6th June with a
Comedy Evening brought to us by Adam Preston of Village Idiot Comedy
(www.villageidiotcomedy.com). Tickets are £18 each (parental guidance advised) and can be
purchased online via the following Eventbrite links: https://hovec2024.eventbrite.co.uk/
https://tinyurl.com/bdf9v7es and via the HoVEC website button at the bottom of the Home Page.

Acts include, Francis Foster, Wendy Wason, Eleanor Tiernan and David Whitney!

100 tickets were sold on the first day and we are now over half way through!

The Social Club bar and doors open at 7.30pm, with comedy starting from 8.30pm. Please support the Social Club by
buying your drinks there - this is not a bring your own booze event!

Friday 7th June
Friday is the turn of the ever popular Party Night. Prices for this evening, featuring an
amazing band Nightwatch, are £25 via info.hovec@gmail.com and only THREE tables are left as
so book soon to avoid disappointment!!!

For those who haven’t been before, please ensure that you bring your own crockery, glasses
and food - HoVEC provide the tables, chairs and entertainment (live band with dance floor)
and the Social Club Bar will open all evening. You can either book your own table for 10 or
12 people or buy smaller numbers of tickets if you are happy for us to put you into groups.
This year’s theme for table decoration is ‘The Olympics’ and fancy dress linked to the same
theme is optional! As you will know, The Olympics 2024 open in Paris on Friday 26th July,
with the slogan Games Wide Open, encouraging everyone to come and experience the
excitement together - HoVEC feel the same way about the Horsmonden Summer Festival.

Saturday 8th June
The Friends of Horsmonden Primary Academy (FoHPS) take over the Village Green on
Saturday from 12 noon, reassured that they can relocate under the marquee if the weather
lets them down. Before the Festival started in 2012, the school would traditionally lose so
much fundraising money if the annual Fete had to be cancelled due to thunderstorms, a
great example of how the Summer Festival event supports the whole village community.
Highlights include a BBQ, popcorn, Hines food van, children’s entertainment, a Tug of War
competition and assault course, the ukelele band, plus stalls selling a wide variety of items.

The Social Club bar will be open throughout the afternoon.

From 6.30pm on Saturday evening the venue transforms into a Music Festival, with live
bands and food vans open to all. Please note that only drinks purchased from The Social
Club bar are allowed inside the marquee. Keep an eye out for final confirmation on the line
up, kicking off with Bloco Fogo at 6.30pm and featuring Midnight Rider alongside Pete Webb
& Friends, with two more bands yet to confirm.

This year we have the following food vans booked to tantalise your taste buds - Mr Chippy
(the best Fish and Chips plus more);  Deborah from Hines Food, who has supported us for
years and fills those gaps with mixed burgers, sandwiches, sweet and savoury crepes, tea,
coffee and many other options; The Greek Way who serve the most amazing meat and
vegetarian kebabs, with lots of yummy sides; Wild Flame Pizza from Rye; and a new supplier
serving paella!

Sunday 9th June
Finally on Sunday, the weekend closes with an eclectic combination of events: a Combined
Church Service followed by tea and coffee in the marquee, a Classic Car Show and a Lunch
starting at 1pm. All those who live in the village, or play a part in village life are invited. No
formal invitations are sent out, but it is open to all, and will include musical performances by
HUBB and The Village Choir.

As usual the Horsmonden Social Club will be working hard, providing bar facilities across the
whole weekend! All profits go towards helping our community so please support them as
much as you can. HoVEC could not run these events without the support and help of
the Social Club and we are so grateful to all their volunteers who give their time completely
free of charge.

Volunteers
Help is always needed to help coordinate the Festival and to ensure that it runs smoothly so
please contact us if you can offer any help, no matter how small: there are plenty of roles to
suit everyone: washing up, fencing arenas, litter picking, baking a cake, rearranging the
marquee, etc. We depend on our volunteers to keep our events viable. Please
email info.hovec@gmail.com if you would like to get involved.
