HoVEC are organising a number of events over the weekend of 1 to 5 June to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and will be hosting the “Big Lunch” in the marquee on the Green on Sunday, 5 June 2022.
Lunch will be served from 2pm and will include a choice of savory dishes and salads, children’s options, tea, coffee, soft drinks. There is no charge for the lunch - this is all part of “bringing our community together” and using some of the Community Lottery Fund that we have been awarded for everyone to enjoy.
All those who live in the village, or play a part in village life are invited. No formal invitation will be sent out but the lunch is open to all. Horsmonden Social Club’s Tent Bar will be open to sell alcoholic drinks - a big “Thank You” to the Horsmonden Social Club for generously providing some additional funding for the lunch.
The marquee will be adorned with Jubilee-theme decoration. Trestle tables and chairs will be laid out for lunch, and there will be music from the Ray Rich Band and Horsmonden Choir. There will be a classic car display on the Green, and a roving entertainment act.
You are welcome to bring your own table and chairs to sit on the Green. Note that there is no parking available on the Green, but please contact if you have a Blue Badge and will require parking. If you have any dietary requirements or allergies please feel free to bring your own food as we have limited facilities to prepare and store food.
Competition - Jubilee Pudding and Cakes
We are hoping our village home bakers will provide a Jubilee Pudding or Cake for our “Bake Off” Competition. All entries to be brought to The Social Club by midday for judging on Sunday, 5 June. All cakes and puddings donated will be shared with guests after the main course and the winners announced at 4pm.
There will be three classes: adults, youngsters 12 - 17 and children under 11. We are looking for decorated cakes and puddings which represent the Queen’s 70 year reign. Keep it simple–red, white and blue, decorate to look like a crown, or maybe a palace or corgi–the choice is yours!
If you would like to volunteer over the weekend, there are plenty of roles to suit everyone from washing up, litter picking, baking a cake, rearranging the marquee, etc. Please email
Thank you to all those who have already responded. We will be sending out a note of timings when help is required, so please bear with us as we are in the final week of preparation, and are very grateful for the responses received so far. Thank you.
