Autumn Festival

28th October 2023 hyphenHorsmonden Village Green

This year’s Autumn Festival will be held on Saturday 28th October.

Following the success of last year’s event and with Halloween festivities now being one of the highlights of the year for Horsmonden youngsters, HoVEC have organised it's second Pumpkin and Welly Trail and Pumpkin Carving competition.

Pumpkin and Welly Trail

Starting at the Social Club on The Green from 5.30pm (last ticket 7pm) collect a map (£5 per map) and follow the trail around the orchards of Hazel Street Farm. This is a fun event for all, with children and parents, and groups of friends, working together to find all the pumpkins and 15 other objects hidden along the way – for those that remember them all there will be a trick or treat bucket full of rewards!

On return to The Green, the intrepid trail finders will also be rewarded by delicious refreshments, including a BBQ by the Sports Club, cupcakes and biscuits donated by volunteers and seasonally appropriate toffee apples. Please bring cash if you can!

Pumpkin Carving Competition

This year, all competitive pumpkins (£1 per entry) need to be delivered to Social Club by 6pm on Saturday 28th October for display and judging. Please ensure that there are stickers on each pumpkin with your name/date of birth/contact telephone number: otherwise, we won’t be able to contact you to let you know that you are a winner!

There are six age group categories:

  • Kindergarten/Reception
  • Years 1 & 2
  • Years 3 & 4
  • Years 5 & 6
  • Years 7, 8 & 9
  • Adult.

Winners will be announced at 7pm, with prizes of buckets of sweets for children and red wine for adults.

Pumpkin Carving Evening - Wednesday 25th October

Ahead of the festivities we are looking for volunteers to carve pumpkins (adults only) on the evening of Wednesday 25th October at the Social Club at 7.30pm: please bring your own tools and knives if you can.

It’s an evening of fun and laughter. Please do join us if you can and message to let us know you are coming.

As always volunteers are essential to ensure the success of the event so please contact HoVEC if you are able to help in any way – for example, in addition to the carving of pumpkins above, volunteers are also needed to lay the trail from 2pm on Saturday 28th October, marshal the route, work on the registration desk to distribute maps/instructions and receive competition pumpkins; likewise, to retrieve pumpkins and litter on Sunday 29th October. We have a What’s App group to coordinate everyone: please message if you are happy to help.
